Gen Z Alliance Demands Resignation of CIAA Chief Commissioner Prem Kumar Rai

Kathmandu — Members of the Gen Z generation have demanded the resignation of Prem Kumar Rai, Chief Commissioner of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), along with all other commissioners.

The Gen Z Movement Alliance submitted a formal letter at the CIAA office on Tuesday, calling for the resignation of Rai and the entire leadership team. They accused Rai of being involved in corruption cases, including the Widebody aircraft scandal, and questioned the impartiality of the commission under his leadership.

Citing the absence of a parliament, which makes impeachment impossible, the alliance urged Rai and other commissioners to resign on moral grounds. The group also called on the interim government to appoint new commissioners through an open and merit-based process.

The alliance warned that if the resignations are not submitted, they will announce further protest programs.

A day earlier, the alliance had sent a pressure letter via email to Rai, urging him to step down. They argued that since Rai and other commissioners were appointed by former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, there are doubts about their impartiality in investigating corruption cases, emphasizing the need for new, unbiased leadership.
