Fuel Supply via Tribhuvan Highway Following Road Subsidence at Krishnabhir

Kathmandu: Following the blockade on the Krishnabhir section of the Prithvi Highway, Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has been maintaining the supply of petroleum products and LP gas to the Kathmandu Valley and surrounding areas via the Tribhuvan Highway (Byroad).

On August 30 (Bhadra 14), erosion by the Trishuli River damaged the Prithvi Highway, stranding fuel tankers and gas bullets. Subsequently, the Corporation began utilizing alternative routes to bring filled gas cylinders from Terai-based industries into Kathmandu.

According to NOC, approximately 24,500 cylinders were brought into the valley on September 3 (Bhadra 18) and around 34,134 cylinders on September 4 (Bhadra 19). To keep the supply system smooth, gas industries have been instructed to continue refilling and transportation even on public holidays.

Meanwhile, following the damage caused in districts including Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha, and Chitwan by flooding in the Bhote Koshi River on August 26 (Bhadra 10), the Corporation has been providing aviation fuel and gas for the ongoing search and rescue operations.

A total of 120,000 liters of aviation fuel has already been refueled at the Nepalese Army barracks in Nuwakot for helicopters deployed in rescue operations.

Additionally, at the request of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), NOC stated that 575 LP gas cylinders have been dispatched to temporary shelters in Rasuwa and Nuwakot.
