High-Level Meeting Held Regarding Tragic Bus Accident in Dhading
Kathmandu. A high-level meeting was chaired by Home Minister Omprakash Aryal regarding the tragic bus accident that occurred in Dhading last night.
The meeting, which included Minister Aryal, Ministry Secretary Rajkumar Shrestha, Secretary of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport Keshav Kumar Sharma, heads of security agencies, and officials from the National Federation of Transport Entrepreneurs, expressed condolences to those who lost their lives and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.
The meeting decided to prioritize and streamline the treatment of the injured, form an accident investigation committee to uncover the facts, and implement the findings as soon as the report is submitted. It was also decided to make regulatory bodies and transport entrepreneur committees more responsible by effectively regulating the transport sector.
Furthermore, it was decided to strictly enforce laws to minimize road accidents in the future and to hold transport entrepreneurs, drivers, and co-drivers accountable.
Expressing grief over the human loss caused by the road accident, Home Minister Aryal directed the relevant agencies to prioritize rescue and treatment efforts. He drew the attention of the concerned authorities to prevent such incidents from recurring and instructed the effective implementation and strict regulation of road safety laws.
He also directed that those responsible for the accident be brought to justice. Pointing out that such major road accidents could pose security challenges at a time when election security needs to be tightened, he urged all stakeholders to remain alert and fulfill their responsibilities.
According to the police, a bus with registration number Ga 2 Kha 1421, heading from Pokhara to Kathmandu via the Prithvi Highway, plunged toward the banks of the Trishuli River at a place called Bhansegaunda in Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality-5, Dhading, at 1:30 AM.
Seventeen people died at the scene, two passed away during treatment, and 25 injured passengers are currently receiving treatment at various hospitals in Kathmandu.
