Department of Passports Launches New System, Secures Data Migration of 10 Million Citizens

The Department of Passports has announced that it has successfully completed the largest data migration in Nepal's history and has commenced services through a new passport production and management system.

Issuing a notice on Monday, the Department of Passports under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed that the new system has been brought into implementation starting Asar 29, 2083 BS. According to the department, the passport-related details of approximately 10 million Nepali citizens have been securely migrated to the new system.

The department noted that following the operation of the new IT system, there could be some initial technical challenges, system slowdowns, and minor delays in passport distribution. The department stated that such circumstances are normal during the initial phase of implementing a new system.

To address potential issues, the department’s technical team, staff, and experts from the system development company are working around the clock, remaining on standby to monitor, test, and improve the system.

The department expressed its full capability and commitment to achieving both immediate and long-term solutions to any emerging problems.

During this initial phase of the new system, the department has requested only those service seekers who urgently require a passport to submit applications. The department believes that the cooperation of service seekers will significantly contribute to making the new system more stable and effective.

Furthermore, the department has urged service seekers to rely only on official notices and news published by the department or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for any updates and information regarding passport services.

The Department of Passports reiterated its continuous commitment to providing efficient, swift, and reliable services to Nepali citizens.
