Continuous Rain and Landslides Block Country’s Major Highways

Continuous rainfall and landslides across various parts of the country have blocked major highways and road segments. As flood and landslide hazards disrupt transport services, relevant authorities have urged the public to exercise caution.

According to the police, vehicular movement has been completely halted on the Khurkot–Nepalthok–Katunjebesi section of the BP Highway, which connects Kavrepalanchok and Sindhuli, due to persistent rain. In light of potential flooding, traffic on this section is prohibited between 6:00 PM and 4:00 AM, while it remains open during daytime hours. Similarly, on the Kanti Lokpath in Makwanpur, all types of vehicles are banned from operating at night due to the rain.

In Ilam Municipality-9, Rajduwali, the Mechi Highway has been fully blocked as the road turned muddy due to rain; an alternative route has been arranged there. The Araniko Highway is also completely closed after mud, dirt, and debris slid onto the road at Ziro Kilo (Ward No. 4) and Iku Landslide in Kodari (Ward No. 2) of Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality, Sindhupalchok.

Likewise, in Jaimini Municipality-8, Belbagar of Baglung, a landslide containing rocks and dirt fell from above, completely blocking the Kaligandaki Corridor. In Dolakha's Tamakoshi Rural Municipality-5, Kirnetar, erosion by the Tamakoshi River disrupted the Lamosangu–Ramechhap Highway; however, an alternative route has been brought into operation through the premises of the Khimti Rural Electric Cooperative. In Rolpa's Paribartan Rural Municipality-1, Kholabang, a dry landslide has completely blocked the Ghorahi–Thabang Shahid Highway.

In Mugu's Chhayanath Rara Municipality-7, Pina Khola, falling rocks and landslides have closed the Nagma–Gamgadhi road section, while a landslide at Kulung in Gosaikunda Rural Municipality-3, Rasuwa, has blocked the Pasang Lhamu Highway. Similarly, the Besishahar–Chame Manang road section remains completely shut down due to a landslide at Myagde Bhir in Marsyangdi Rural Municipality-4, Lamjung.

The Department of Roads and security agencies have stated that efforts are underway to clear the blocked roads. Travelers are requested to check the current road conditions before embarking on their journey.
