Saroj Guragain, Chief Administrative Officer of Kathmandu, Retires; Metropolitan City Bids Farewell

Kathmandu: Saroj Guragain, the Chief Administrative Officer of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC), retired from service today.

Guragain had assumed office as the Chief Administrative Officer at KMC on September 23, 2024 (Ashoj 7, 2081 BS), following a decision by the Government of Nepal (Council of Ministers) on September 12, 2024 (Bhadra 27, 2081 BS). He has taken mandatory retirement today due to age limits.

The Metropolitan City organized a farewell ceremony in his honor today. The event was attended by Acting Mayor Sunita Dangol, spokesperson Nabin Manandhar, executive council members, department heads, and division chiefs.

Speaking at the ceremony, Acting Mayor Sunita Dangol stated that KMC will always remember Guragain's administrative leadership in fostering collaboration, coordination, and coexistence among employees, elected representatives, and partner organizations.

"The position is temporary; service is permanent," said Acting Mayor Dangol. "Even though the official duty ends, the service does not. We hope your service journey becomes even more refined in your retired life."

Guragain is the first official in the history of Kathmandu Metropolitan City to retire directly from the post of Chief Administrative Officer. During the event, Khyamraj Tiwari, Coordinator of the Governance Committee, remarked, "Your knowledge, skills, and experience will be valuable for the institutional development of the Metropolitan City. We look forward to such contributions from you."

In his farewell address, Chief Administrative Officer Guragain expressed that among his 32.5 years of service, his tenure at Kathmandu Metropolitan City was the most memorable. "The ups and downs in administrative service are natural for an employee. I have taken them lightly," he said.

Guragain entered the Federal Civil Service as a Section Officer on January 3, 1995 (Poush 19, 2051 BS). The majority of his career was spent in local service, including nearly 2 years at the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration and around 21 years in local governance.
