Chhaya Chhavi Creation Opens Public Call for Song Registration for the 12th Teej Music Awards
Chhaya Chhavi Creation has publicly called for the registration of Teej songs for the 12th edition of the Chhaya Chhavi Teej Music Awards, an event it has been organizing for the past 12 years, centered around the culturally significant Teej festival.
Teej, a major festival especially for Hindu women in Nepal, is traditionally a time when emotional experiences—sorrow, pain, joy, excitement, and feelings—are expressed through music. In the past, these songs primarily conveyed the pain of daughters-in-law suffering in their marital homes. However, with changing times, both the themes and musical styles of Teej songs have evolved.
Today, instead of being confined to village gatherings, Teej songs have found a broader stage, with female singers, and increasingly male singers as well, performing Teej dohori (folk duet) songs. Every year, hundreds of such songs are released around the Teej festival.
According to Shantipriya, Chairperson of Chhaya Chhavi, the purpose of this award is to honor and encourage the creators of Teej songs who give voice to these cultural expressions. The 12th Teej Music Awards will recognize creators in 25 different categories. Additionally, various honors and awards will be presented during the program.
Teej songs for the 12th edition of the Chhaya Chhavi Teej Music Awards can be registered throughout the month of Shrawan (mid-July to mid-August) either at the Chhaya Chhavi office in Dillibazar or via email.
