Birgunj Collects Rs 21 Crore in Four Months, Falls Short of Expectations
Birgunj (Parsa), November 27: Birgunj Metropolitan City has collected a total revenue of Rs 21 crore 3 lakh 96 thousand 408 in the first four months of the current fiscal year. During this period, the metropolitan city collected Rs 7 crore 56 lakh from property tax.
Rajesh Man Singh, Mayor of Birgunj Metropolitan City, claimed that the metropolitan city has been increasing public awareness to boost revenue. "We are conducting public awareness programs to enhance the metropolitan city's revenue.
However, revenue collection is still not meeting expectations," he said, adding, "The problem is also due to a lack of awareness among the local population that they must pay taxes to the local government."
In the four months of the current fiscal year, the metropolitan city collected Rs 37 lakh 67 thousand 980 from underground/land revenue tax.
Similarly, Rs 1 crore 60 lakh 86 thousand was collected from house rent tax. Furthermore, Rs 2 crore was collected from the tax levied on the use of infrastructure services.
Tax on Akhet-Ophaar yielded Rs 5 crore 10 lakh in revenue. Other service fees accounted for Rs 1 crore 49 lakh 83 thousand in revenue collection. The metropolitan city collects tax under 20 different headings.
