Surya Nepal NPGA Tour Championship: Bhuwan Nagarkoti extends lead

BARDIBAS (MAHOTTARI): Bhuwan Nagarkoti extended the lead after second round of the Surya Nepal NPGA Tour Championship, third event under Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2025-26, at the par-72 Mithila Nagari Army Golf Club in Bardibas, Mahottari on Wednesday.

Bhuvan carded a bogey-free 2-under 70 on the second day for 36-hole total score of 7-under 137. He is six strokes ahead of Tanka Bahadur Karki and Bhuwan Kumar Rokka, who are tied for second at 1-under 143. Tanka carded 1-under 71 and Bhuwan Rokka played 2-over 74 in the second round.

Suman Pariyar is fourth at even-par 144 after he carded 2-under 70. Nepal No 1 pro Niraj Tamang (72), Suman Rai (74) and Dhana Bahadur Thapa (74) are tied for fifth at 1-over 145, while Sanjay Lama moved up to eighth at 2-over 146 after he carded 1-under 71.

Jayram Shrestha and Dinesh Prajapati share the ninth position at 3-over 147. Jayram carded 3-under 69 for the day’s best card, while Dinesh shot 2-over 74.

Cut was applied at 8-over 152, with 18 pros and two amateurs making it to the final round. Kumar Kami, Rabi Khadka, Ramesh Adhikari, Pradip Kumar Lama, Surya Prasad Sharma, Bal Bhadra Rai, Sabin Sapkota and Deepak Magar made the cut among pros.

In amateur section, Prakrit Tamang is at the top with 36-hole total score of 3-over 147 and he is overall tied for ninth. Prakrit is 2-stroke ahead of Sundar Rai, who played 2-over 74 in the second round for 5-over 149 total.

Leader Bhuvan Nagarkoti took the turn at 2-under 34 with the help of birdies on the fourth and ninth holes. He then saved pars on all nine holes of back nine for even-par 36. On Tuesday, Bhuvan had set a course record of 5-under 67 in the first-ever Surya Nepal Golf Tour event at the Mithila Nagari Army Golf Club.

Tanka moved up to earn a share of second place after he carded 1-under 35 on the front nine and even-par 36 on the back nine. He carded birdies on the first and ninth holes against a bogey on the sixth hole before the turn. Tanka then faced bogeys on the 15th and 16th holes, and saved shots on the 11th and 18th holes.

Bhuwan Rokka faced bogeys on the second and seventh holes before carding a birdie on the eighth to take the turn at 1-over 37. He dropped shots on the 15th and 17th holes against a birdie on the 16th hole.

A total of 36 golfers – 30 pros and six amateurs – are taking part in the 54-hole tournament organised by Nepal PGA under the sponsorship of Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd. The tournament carries a total prize purse of Rs 1,050,000 and the winner will receive Rs. 170,000. 

The runner-up and third-place finisher will earn Rs. 125,000 and Rs. 100,000, respectively. Players finishing in the top 18 positions will receive prize money.
