Spectacular Set Used to Film Key Scene of Nepali Sci-Fi Movie ‘Eklo’ in Panauti

Kathmandu — A major scene from the Nepali science fiction film Eklo was recently shot using a grand setup in Panauti Municipality, Kavrepalanchok district.

According to director Pradeep Shahi, a three-minute-long one-shot sequence was filmed featuring actor Vijay Lama and actress Diya Pun. In the scene, a car accident unfolds in front of pilot Vijay Lama, with a chaotic crowd caused by zombies — a crucial turning point in the storyline.

Special preparations were made to film this complex shot. The actors had to repeatedly run to the crash site involving a car and a bicycle. Due to several retakes and minor errors, the scene had to be reshot multiple times. Director Shahi shared that it took nearly six hours to successfully capture the two-minute one-shot sequence.

Executive producer Binod Subedi ‘Kshitiz’ explained that shooting such scenes requires a high level of planning and patience. “Even a small mistake meant starting from scratch, which consumed a lot of time,” he said.

Eklo stars actor Pradeep Khadka in the lead role. The film is currently in post-production in London and is set to release in the month of Poush (December–January), coinciding with the Christmas season.

The teaser, released earlier, featured glimpses of Pradeep Khadka along with Vijay Lama, Diya Pun, Kavita Nepali, Jamie Bacon, and Benisha Hamal. The film had also made an appearance in the market section of the Cannes Film Festival, garnering attention on an international level.

Director Pradeep Shahi, who has previously directed two films, has been living in the UK for a long time. With Eklo, he aims to deliver a Hollywood-level production in terms of technology and presentation.

The cast includes Pradeep Khadka, Vijay Lama, Sunil Thapa, Diya Pun, Benisha Hamal, Dinesh DC, Kavita Nepali, Suraj Singh Thakuri, Avon Raj Upreti, Trichu Rai, Krishnabhakta Maharjan, Bikash Adhikari, Diggaj Khatri, Binod Subedi ‘Kshitiz’, Arushjung Saru Magar, Shrishes Shrestha, child actors Jemin Shrestha and Syon Sabik Singh, and British actor Jamie Bacon.

The producers of the film include Rajkumar Gurung, Hari Shrestha, Bishnu Tamang, Utsav Bista, Bhairaja Thapa, Navin Shiva, Bagbir Pun, Bhuvan Adhikari, Sangeeta Wadi Shrestha, Ritesh Rana, Sushil Prajapati, and Shashikala Gurung, with Binod Subedi ‘Kshitiz’ serving as executive producer.

On the technical side, the film’s cinematography is by Babu Shrestha, action direction by Raju Tamang, set design by Raju Painter, art direction by Santosh Lama, and production design by Dron Prasad Poudel ‘Theuke’.

Eklo is being viewed as a bold and ambitious attempt to bring high-quality science fiction storytelling to the Nepali film industry.
