East Bengal Wins Inaugural SAFF Women's Club Championship
Kathmandu — India's East Bengal FC has clinched the title of the SAFF Women's Club Championship. The final match of the tournament, organized for the first time by the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF), took place on Saturday at the Dasharath Stadium in Tripureshwor.
In yesterday's final, East Bengal defeated Nepal's APF Club with a decisive 3-0 victory to claim the trophy. Captain Fazila Ikwaput scored twice for East Bengal, while Shilkidevi Hanam added one goal to the tally.
The scoring opened in the 22nd minute when Captain Ikwaput capitalized on a lack of coordination between Nepal’s goalkeeper, Anjana Rana Magar, and defender Gita Rana. East Bengal doubled their lead in the 35th minute through a goal by Shilkidevi Hanam.
East Bengal secured their victory by scoring a third goal in the early minutes of the second half. The tournament, which began Mangsir 19, featured five teams from across South Asia. In addition to the two finalists, the participating teams included Karachi City FC (Pakistan), Nasrin Sports Academy (Bangladesh), and Transport United (Bhutan).
