Indian Coach Robin Singh Appointed as 'Mentor' for Lumbini Lions

Kartik 20, Kathmandu. Lumbini Lions has appointed Indian coach Robin Singh as its mentor. Lumbini appointed Singh for the second edition of the Nepal Premier League, which will be held from Mangsir 1 to 27.

The 62-year-old Robin Singh has extensive coaching experience. He has coached the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Barbados Tridents in the Caribbean Premier League.

Additionally, Robin Singh has also coached the UAE national team. After retiring as a player, Singh initially became the coach of India's U-19 team.

In 2004, he became the coach of Hong Kong and played a role in qualifying Hong Kong for the Asia Cup. Following that, he became the coach of the India A team in 2006.

Subsequently, he served as the fielding coach for the Indian national team in 2007 and 2008. Then, in the first season of the IPL, which started in 2008, Singh was the coach of the Deccan Chargers.

He became the head coach of Mumbai Indians in 2010 and remained with the Mumbai team for three seasons. He was included in the coaching structure after Mumbai won the IPL title in 2013. He also became the coach of the Barbados Tridents after 2012.

In 2020, Robin Singh became the Director of Cricket and Head Coach of the UAE national team. Under his coaching, the UAE played in the ICC T20 World Cup held in Australia in 2022.

In the International League T20, which started in 2023, he was the GM of MI Emirates in the first season. In the subsequent season, he became the head coach of MI Emirates and contributed to the team becoming the champions.

Furthermore, as an all-rounder during his playing days, he played one Test and 136 One Day Internationals (ODIs) for India. He scored only 27 runs in his single Test match. In ODIs, he scored over two thousand runs and took 69 wickets.

With Robin Singh's two decades of coaching experience, Lumbini Lions is confident of achieving good results in the second season of the Nepal Premier League.

Robin Singh expressed his happiness about becoming the mentor of Lumbini Lions. He also stated that he is excited to share his experience with the talented young players in the team.

Cricket is rapidly growing in Nepal, and I am keen to contribute to building a winning culture by sharing my experience with the young talents here. Lions have great potential. Together, we want to make this season truly memorable for our fans and for Nepali cricket.”

Lumbini Lions' marquee player is the Nepali national team captain, Rohit Kumar Paudel. Furthermore, Lumbini has signed Australian player D'Arcy Short and Italian bowler Thomas Draca as foreign players for the second season, and other foreign players will be announced soon.
