NRNA President Shrestha Inspects Baggi Khana

Kathmandu – Mahesh Kumar Shrestha, President of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) ICC, has said that the organization will support reconstruction in coordination with security agencies.

He expressed this commitment while inspecting the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Control Room, which was damaged during the Gen Z movement on September 8–9.

During a meeting with SP Navaraj Adhikari, Chief of Traffic at Baggi Khana, President Shrestha said that road safety is very important to normalize daily life and bring society back on track, which is why NRNA is assisting in reconstruction.

On the occasion, SP Adhikari praised NRNA’s support and emphasized the need for continued cooperation in the coming days. He also shared that the office is currently operating from tents and that once the Traffic Control Room resumes operation, services will be much more convenient.

NRNA Vice President and Coordinator of the Disaster Management Committee, Manoj Shrestha ‘Gorkhali,’ informed that the foundation work is underway and that equipment will be installed soon.

Likewise, Deputy Coordinator and Women Vice President Rashmi Thapa said that preparations are being made to complete the work before the Dashain festival by increasing the number of workers if necessary.

The protest had completely destroyed the Traffic Control Room building. The estimated cost of reconstruction is around Rs. 8 million. President Shrestha said that NRNA will provide computers, televisions, furniture, radio sets, and other equipment.

Similarly, NRNA activist Rajendra Kumar (RK) Sharma stressed that the Government of Nepal should focus on reconstruction in collaboration with Nepalis living abroad.

On the same day, President Shrestha also held discussions with AIG Dan Bahadur Karki of the Kathmandu Valley Police Office at Ranipokhari. AIG Karki thanked NRNA for supporting the police with the necessary equipment.

On the occasion, NRNA activists Janaki Gurung, Youth Coordinator Bhimsen Thapa, Member Secretary Dharmaraj Giri, and members Pradeep Khanal and Nirajan Khatri were also present.
