Nepal Hosts ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier
Kathmandu. Nepal is hosting its largest-ever international women’s cricket tournament as the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier begins today.
Organized by the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), the opening match will see the Nepalese women’s team face Thailand on home ground this Sunday. The match between Nepal and Thailand is scheduled to take place at the TU Cricket Ground starting at 9:00 AM.
During a press conference organized by CAN on Saturday evening on the eve of the tournament, confidence was expressed that the Nepalese team would deliver an improved performance compared to the previous edition.
Team captain Indu Barma stated that by taking advantage of the home ground and focusing on improved batting, fielding, and team coordination, the goal is to reach at least the Super Six stage.
Participation of 10 Countries A total of 10 countries are participating in the tournament, including Nepal, Scotland, the USA, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Thailand, Bangladesh, Ireland, Papua New Guinea, and the Netherlands. Captains of other participating teams commented that the Nepalese pitches and grounds are challenging yet competitive.
The captains of Namibia and the USA mentioned that the practice matches have provided them with good preparation for the tournament.
