Ministers Yadav and Chaurasiya Conduct Field Visit to Address Drinking Water Crisis in Birgunj

Birgunj – In response to the growing drinking water crisis caused by the adverse effects of climate change in the Terai-Madhes region, Minister for Drinking Water Pradeep Yadav and Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ajay Kumar Chaurasiya conducted a special monitoring and inspection visit across various areas of Parsa district today.

Due to the worsening water supply situation in Birgunj Metropolitan City and surrounding areas, the ministers carried out an on-site assessment of villages and wards within Electoral Constituency No. 2 in Parsa, according to Harindra Sah Kanu, personal secretary to Minister Yadav.

Minister Yadav stated that the Ministry of Drinking Water is actively working to resolve both the immediate and long-term drinking water problems in the region. “To address the long-standing issue of drinking water in Birgunj, the government has allocated NPR 4.5 billion with assistance from the Asian Development Bank (ADB),” he said. “We have already started installing deep borings in several areas to ensure emergency water supply.”

He further added that he and Minister Chaurasiya personally visited the affected areas to assess the situation and seek sustainable solutions for the people of Terai-Madhes.

Minister Chaurasiya expressed deep concern over the severe water shortages faced by residents of Birgunj and Parsa. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to making clean drinking water accessible to all. “The people of Parsa district are suffering due to a lack of water,” he said. “We are here to identify the core issues and implement both immediate and long-term solutions.”

Minister Yadav also noted that the Nepal Water Supply Corporation is collaborating with relevant stakeholders to take necessary steps to resolve the crisis, urging local support and cooperation for successful implementation.
