Heavy Snowfall in Mugu District (Photos)
Mugu: Fresh snowfall has occurred in Mugu district since Tuesday night. Before the thick snow from last Friday and Saturday—which followed a long drought—could even melt, heavy snow fell again last night in high-altitude settlements including Rara, Murma, Pina, Kotila, Khamale, Talcha, Jhyari, Mathitum, Rowa, Sobha, Topla, Tallekh, Ghattalekh, Dolphu, Mugu, Chitai, Srikot, and Sorukot.
The snowfall has blanketed forests, trees, and villages in white, making movement difficult for locals. With the extreme cold following this second bout of snow, the elderly, children, and those with chronic illnesses are facing particular hardships.
Schooling in high-altitude mountain settlements has been affected, and candidates for the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5 are finding it difficult to go door-to-door to meet voters.
However, after a long period of drought, farmers feel that this year's rain and snow have brought relief. Farmers in Murma village said, "The snowfall will help increase the production of barley, wheat, fruits, and medicinal herbs."
