Democratic Sports Association Marks Constitution Day with Candle Lighting

The Nepal Democratic Sports Association, the youngest sister organization of the Nepali Congress, observed Constitution Day with various programs nationwide as per the party’s directive.

According to General Secretary Deepak Gurung, candle lighting ceremonies were organized in most parts of the country to mark the occasion. The constitution of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal was promulgated in 2015 (2072 BS) through the Constituent Assembly.

Speaking at a program held at Nagpokhari, Kathmandu, Nepali Congress Central Member and Head of the Sports Department, Umeshjung Rayamajhi, said that even after a decade, the constitution needs amendments to include the sentiments of all citizens.

Referring to the recent Gen Z protests on September 8 and 9, he condemned the destruction of public property and stressed the need for an investigation into the incident. He further said that the Congress is ready to safeguard the constitution and contest the upcoming elections scheduled for March 5, 2026 (Falgun 21, 2082).

Rayamajhi also remarked that if the Congress moves forward unitedly, no one can stop it from becoming the largest political force again, which he said is necessary to lead the nation out of crisis.

Similarly, Congress Central Member Radha Ghale demanded a probe into possible infiltration during the Gen Z protests, while Raju Shrestha and General Secretary Gurung also shared their views. The program also featured a candle lighting ceremony and one minute of silence to pay tribute to martyrs.

Meanwhile, in a separate event held in Pokhara, Association President Devendrakumar Sherchan said that the constitution addresses all sectors and called upon youth and athletes to contribute to making the Nepali Congress the leading force in the upcoming elections.
