Pokhara, September 3 —
An arm wrestling championship is set to take place in Pokhara. The Arm Wrestling Association, Kaski, is organizing the event. For the first time, the “First Pokhara National Arm Wrestling Championship–2082” will be held, according to the association’s president, Nabin Gurung.
The competition will be held on September 5 and 6 at the IvyY Club, located in Lakeside, Ward No. 6 of Pokhara Metropolitan City, said coordinator Khali Thapa.
Participants will compete in four weight categories: under 60 kg, under 70 kg, under 80 kg, and over 80 kg.
Equal prize amounts have been allocated across all four categories, informed Ratna Bahadur Ale, the first vice president of the association and manager of the competition. The first, second, and third-place winners will receive NPR 50,000, NPR 25,000, and NPR 10,000 respectively, along with medals and certificates. In addition, the “Champion of Champions” will receive NPR 100,000 and a certificate.
Organizers claim this is the highest prize amount ever in Nepal’s arm wrestling history. More than NPR 450,000 has been allocated for prize money alone, according to President Gurung. The estimated total cost to host the event is NPR 2.319 million.
Around 150 players from across the country are expected to participate in the competition. Players wishing to take part must submit their applications by September 3, organizers said.
