Team Registration Begins for 16th President’s Running Shield and 5th Mayor’s Cup in Pokhara
Pokhara: The player and team registration for the 16th President’s Running Shield and 5th Mayor’s Cup School Sports Tournament, starting from Poush 9 in Pokhara, has commenced from Thursday. Somnath Bhandari, the Education Officer of Pokhara Metropolitan City, stated that the registration will continue until Poush 6 and mentioned that registration can also be done on Saturday.
Speaking at a discussion program organized on Thursday by the Pokhara Metropolitan Sports Development Committee for the preparation of the competition with the technical sub-committee and school sports teachers, Education Officer Bhandari stated that action will be taken if anyone is found lying about birth dates during the registration process. He clarified that such activities were found to have occurred in the past, and therefore, strictness will be maintained this time.
Education Officer Bhandari has requested to mention the ‘EMIS Code Number’ provided to every student during school admission in the details of the participating students. He also requested to fill out separate forms for every player even in team games.
He revealed that the tie-sheet will be prepared on Poush 7 in the presence of everyone and will be made public through newspapers on the 8th. Clarifying that those who committed forgery in the past were punished, he stated that if anyone is found committing forgery this time, they will face actions such as being barred from playing for one year.
He emphasized that everyone must remain vigilant to prevent a wrong culture from taking root. He stated that there are a total of 240 schools in Pokhara Metropolitan City, including 160 institutional (private) and 80 community schools, and participation will be from among these schools.
Students within the age group of 18 years from institutional and community schools of Pokhara Metropolitan City will be eligible to participate in the competition, which will run until Poush 11. Deepak Godar, Chairman of the Pokhara Metropolitan Sports Development Committee, urged sports teachers to involve students with honesty.
He requested to pay attention to player discipline, stating that they are always on the side of truth. He requested to place any grievances or complaints in the concerned department during the operation of the competition. He expressed confidence that the competition will be successful with everyone’s cooperation.
Stating that Pokhara Metropolitan City was successful in winning many medals in the Ninth National Games due to everyone's hard work, he mentioned that since they have already become first in the province in the President's Running Shield, they will now move forward to achieve the same at the center.
He pointed out that preparations have started with the plan to capture the Running Shield at the center and emphasized that everyone's support is necessary for this.
Sports teachers participating in the discussion raised various queries. Technical sub-committee coordinator Rajan Paudel, co-coordinator Siddhanta Adhikari, and others provided information regarding their queries and the changed rules.
The discussion program was conducted by Suraj Adhikari, Member Secretary of the Pokhara Metropolitan Sports Development Committee. Team and player registration will be free of charge. One player will be allowed to participate in only one category among the sports categories included in the competition.
The Pokhara Metropolitan Sports Development Committee has urged everyone to follow the President's Running Shield Competition Operation Guidelines regarding the changed rules and other matters.
