Kathmandu, July 11 : Newly appointed ambassador of Japan to Nepal Masamichi Saigo has called on Speaker of the House of Representatives Krishna Bahadur Mahara at the latter’s office in Singhadurbar onWednesday.
During the meeting, matters relating to Nepal-Japan relations, and Japan’s support to the development endeavours of Nepal were discussed.
On the occasion, Speaker Mahara said that Nepal-Japan relations was not merely limited to political issues but in social and cultural spheres as well. “Nepal is the birth place of Lord Buddha. And, Japan is the nation of Buddhists.
We are equally close culturally, religiously and emotionally as we are politically,” Mahara said.
The Speaker also lauded the support of Government of Japan extended to Nepal during the destructive ‘Gorkha Earthquake’ and added that the loss of lives and properties caused due to recent flooding in Japan has saddened him.
On the occasion, the Japanese ambassador expressed his confidence that Nepal-Japan relations would be deep and lasting like before. Ambassador Masamichi added that Japan was willing to support Nepal for the good governance of local levels, capacity building among others.(RSS)
